It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Susan Jane Eckes, who left us on February 1, 2025, at the age of 73. Though her time with us feels too short, Susan's life was filled with love, devotion, and unforgettable memories.
Susan devoted 47 years to a career with North Memorial as an ambulance dispatcher, a role she embraced with immense pride and passion. She found great purpose in helping others and was a vital part of the emergency response community. It was through this work that she met the love of her life, Paul Hegg, a paramedic at HCMC who became her soulmate and lifelong partner.
Together, Susan and Paul created a life filled with love, family, and treasured friendships. Together they enjoyed traveling, especially their trips to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving, peaceful weekends at "The Forty" in Alexandria, and spending time at Lake Shamineau with family and friends. Their love for Alexandria led them to purchase a cabin on Lake Oscar, where Susan found joy in quiet moments-reading, relaxing, and making lifelong memories with her grandchildren.
Susan is survived by her beloved Paul Hegg, his children Lynn Hegg, Rob Hegg (Christine), her cherished grandchildren AJ Hegg (Brittany), Mackenzie Hegg, and Casey Hegg, and her great-grandson Silas Hegg. She is also survived by her sister, Martha, and her family.
Susan's kindness, warmth, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel, 1400 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN 55343. Visitation begins at 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM.
