Susan Elizabeth Egbert

MURTAUGH – Susan Elizabeth (Arnold) Egbert, a 70-year-old resident of Murtaugh, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, in Twin Falls, Idaho, with all of her children by her side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Susan was born in Nampa, Idaho, to Edwin LeVere Arnold and Maytie Celia Lowe on December 23, 1954. She graduated from Kuna High School in 1972, where she enjoyed debate team and excelled in math. She continued her education at Ricks College and Brigham Young University, pursuing her interest in nursing. Her love of the medical field remained with her throughout her life, and her whole family depended on her as their first stop for medical questions and care.

During her time at BYU, Susan met the love of her life, Gordon C Egbert. They were married on June 2, 1975, in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning what would become her most important pursuit of building a strong family with a foundation of faith. She was a devoted wife and mother. She raised her family in an atmosphere of love, always singing and humming. She had an impressive breadth of knowledge of children's and nursery songs. She was very intellectual and enjoyed discussions with her family on wide ranging topics teaching her children the importance of learning and how it can change your life. She was especially fond of reading and gave special attention to ensure each of her children could read well.

As time went on, she reached a point in life that she had looked forward to since a child. She became a grandma! Her own grandma, Molly, was an especially great influence in her life. Her fun and loving character touched her so much as a child that she decided at a young age that she wanted to be a grandma like Molly. She cherished her time as Grandma and injected as much fun as she could into the lives of her grandchildren. She was famous for her grandkid parties and for the attention she gave to each of her posterity. Many called her "Gram," including those who became her honorary grandchildren. Her biggest joy was watching her grandchildren grow and helping them find joy in their own journeys. She was always willing to watch the grandkids, even at a moment's notice. She just loved being with family. She built a legacy of gathering family and for many years hosted large family dinners every Sunday.

Susan was deeply involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, and it blessed her immensely. From the time she was baptized she always kept the church as a focus in her life. She loved the Lord and the way He blessed the lives of her family and those around her. She served in many callings and loved providing service to those in the community. The interactions she had through her various callings and associations enriched her life. She loved letting people influence her for the better, and she loved being able to lift others. She had a passion for genealogy and connecting families which she shared with others as she helped countless individuals in the community and at the Family History Library.

Susan is survived by her siblings, Kelly (Janie) Arnold of Kuna, Tracy (Richard) White of Hermiston, Oregon, Sherry (Ray) Cropp of Coos Bay, Oregon, and Kevin (Carolyn) Arnold of Spokane, Washington.

She is also survived by her children, Jason (Tara) Egbert of Murtaugh, Stacy (Zane) Gillette of Oakley, Anna (Theron) Virgin of Murtaugh, Misha (Rodney) Jones of Murtaugh, Daniel (Carol) Egbert of Murtaugh, and Kristen (Devin) Simpson of Murtaugh.

Susan was blessed with 27 grandchildren, Zaden Gillette, Jaxin (Dallas) Baker, Daxton (Ally) Gillette, Zaylee (Elliott) Smith, Kayzia (Colton) Biggs, Austin Virgin, Lyzan (Strom) Pickett, Azlyn (Jack) Burr, Ellie (Austin) Martin, Karlee (Tate) Conrad, Chandler Jones, Jaci Virgin, Kyzer Jones, Adam Egbert, Jakobi Jones, Cree Jones, Dallin Virgin, McKay Jones, Jada Jones, Quinten Virgin, McCoy Simpson, Staton Simpson, Jaggar Simpson, Ethan Egbert, Jacklyn Simpson, James Egbert, and Nicholas Egbert; and six great-grandchildren.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin LeVere and Maytie Celia Arnold, and her beloved husband, Gordon Egbert.

Susan's legacy of family, faith, service, and unconditional love will continue to bless the lives of all who knew her. She has inspired her family and others to know what it means to be a mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the heart of her family. Her family finds comfort in the eternal promise that families can be together forever. They look forward with faith in Christ to the joyful day when they will be reunited with her and Gordon once more.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 25, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Murtaugh Ward, located at 23709 Hwy. 30, in Murtaugh.

Family and friends will be received at the Murtaugh Church from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, October 24, and from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Saturday, preceding the funeral.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls.
