Susan Alene was born on July 31, 1945, in Aledo, Illinois, to George Benjamin and Tolura Elizabeth (Elsworth) Acord. She was a 1963 graduate of Aledo High School before attending Illinois State University and Augustana College. While in school, she was involved in many activities and enjoyed making lasting memories with lifelong friends. When she was a 14-year-old freshman, sophomore basketball player George Ewing caught her eye. The two went on a chaperoned date as neither of them had a license yet. On July 2, 1965, after six years of dating, they were married at the United Methodist Church in Aledo. Together, they devoted their lives to raising a family and farming south of Seaton. She was a proud homemaker and especially loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren on the family farm.

Susan greatly enjoyed people. She never knew a stranger. After just ten minutes of chatting, she would know and remember you. Whether at a ball game, grocery store, or airport, Susan always found a friend. She brought laughter wherever she went and would entertain everyone with endless stories. Susan was passionate about Jesus and loved to tell others about Him. She taught Sunday School and helped with Children's Ministry activities for over fifty years. Susan also loved to sing in the church choir and in the singing group The Six of Us. The group spent many cherished years singing together at numerous area churches and events. Susan selflessly helped others by giving of her time and skills. She could often be found joyfully organizing anyone's mess, running errands, making and delivering meals, or praying for a need. Susan was the ultimate supporter, never missing a chance to show up for her family. Attending her husband's, children’s, and grandchildren’s activities was a top priority. Susan loved any adventure, big or small, and in later years enjoyed daily drives with George to the river in Keithsburg.

Susan’s memory will be cherished by her husband, George; children and spouses: Matt & Jeni Ewing of Seaton, and Britt & Brian Hagens of Aledo; grandchildren and spouses: Jake & Ashley Ewing of Seaton, Isabel & Keegan Bryant of Seaton, and Dani & Grant Ganpat of Aledo; great-grandchildren: Georgia Bryant and Zachary Ewing; sister, Pam Bird of Auburn, IL; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Joyce Olson of Appleton, WI; Ivan & Sue Ewing of Seaton, IL. Susan was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Abbie Acord; and brothers-in-law, Bill Bird and Roy Olson.

The family would especially like to thank Susan’s close friends and family for their help and love during these past weeks. They would also like to thank the Hospice team and Compassionate Homecare QC for their invaluable time and comfort during her last weeks.
