Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home on Jan. 11, 2026.
Susan DuBose Glasgow, age 81, a longtime resident of
Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully at her home during the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025. She was born on March 25, 1944, in
Gonzales, TX, to Warren Lee DuBose, Jr., and Mildred Evelyn Dunn DuBose. Susan married the love of her life, David "Dave" Clark Glasgow, on Sept. 23, 1972, in
Houston, TX.
After graduating from Gonzales High School, where she was a majorette and the valedictorian of the class of 1962, Susan earned a degree in education from The University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation, she taught elementary school in Corpus Christi, TX;
Denver, CO; and
Houston, TX.
It was while teaching in Houston that Betty Strassner, whose two young sons Larry and Jimmy were Susan's fourth-grade students, introduced Susan to her brother David. Betty admired Susan and thought she would be a perfect match with Dave. It was love at first sight, and they were married soon after. Not long after they married, Dave's work took them to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and then to Naperville in the mid-1970's. Although Susan did not return to teaching, she worked a number of years at the College of DuPage. She enjoyed hosting family and friends at the home she shared with her sweet Dave on Burning Tree Lane and was quite the entertainer, known for throwing one heck of a dinner party.
Susan was a sassy redhead from Texas who never forgot her roots. She loved sending and receiving fresh cut flower arrangements; admiring artwork from her favorite artists, including her baby brother; sending personal handwritten notes to those she held dear; and celebrating family members' birthdays or special accomplishments in unsuspected ways. She once arranged for a singing telegram to be delivered to the college campus where her niece attended school to celebrate her birthday. To this day, Trista Lee has never figured out how her Aunt Susie knew just where she would be (and at what time) on a campus of 18,000 students.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Warren Lee "Buddy" DuBose, III, and Keith Dunn DuBose; and her beloved husband of 39 years, David Clark Glasgow.
She is survived by her nieces, Trista Lee Fugate and husband Charles of Windsor, CO, and Becky Strassner and partner Terry Whiteside of Montague, CA; nephews, Kevin DuBose and wife Angela of Sandia, TX, Larry Strassner and wife Pinky of Austin, TX, and Jimmy Strassner and wife Kathy of Austin, TX; grand nephews and nieces, Harrison Fugate, Justin McAdoo, Bella DuBose, Baron DuBose, Leilani Strassner, Tiera Strassner, Jacob Strassner, and Jordan (Strassner) Wade; five great-grand nephews and nieces; sister-in-law, Sandra Baron DuBose Gorden; and a host of cousins and loving friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her dedicated Home Instead caregivers and especially Adam Westell and Joyce Reuland whose special bond with Susan brought her much comfort in her final days.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. A celebration of Susan's life will follow at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin DuBose, Jimmy Strassner, Larry Strassner, Charles Fugate, Neil Gerald, Doug Gerald, Matt Gerald, and Bob Marschalk. A future inurnment will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in
Gonzales, TX, with arrangements under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Susan's life, memorials in her honor may be made to the
charity of your choice.
She's the sweetest little rosebud that Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew
You may talk about your Clementine and sing of Rosalee
But the Yellow Rose of Texas is the only girl for me
