Susan Marie Edwards Kozora, 70, of Gatesville, Texas passed away at home on June 4, 2024, after enduring several health struggles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove with Fr. Augustine Ariwaodo officiating. Private interment will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Susan was born on August 22, 1953, to Thomas and Rosemary (Reilly) Edwards in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. While at Bishop McCort High School, she met her future husband, Ronald Kozora. Susan attended Shippensburg University and graduated with a degree in social work. She would go on to work with special needs adults and child protective services before supporting her husband’s Army career and having and raising her children Daniel, Mark, and Emily. The military brought the family to Texas and after her husband’s retirement, Susan became a special education teacher. She taught mostly in Killeen ISD, eventually becoming the principal of Hay Branch Elementary School. Shortly before her retirement, she returned to teaching life skills for a few years at Gatesville Intermediate School.

Susan was a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church and participated in several ministries including those involved in women’s prisons, pregnancy help centers, and Adoration. She had a servant’s heart and also had an interest in the social issues impacting our country.

Susan was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Rose Ann (Edwards) Zorn. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Ronald; son, Daniel and his wife Katie; son, Mark and his wife Ashley; daughter, Emily and her husband Joseph; sister, Mary Jane McCready; grandchildren, Briley, Samuel, Ella, and Luke; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and in-laws in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gabriel Project of Holy Family Catholic Church, 1001 Georgetown Road, Copperas Cove, Texas 76522-2861.
