AHOSKIE, NC - Susan Marie Frye Mackay, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, at ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, North Carolina. She was 62 years old.
Born on October 4, 1963, in Buffaloe, New York, Susan was the cherished daughter of the late Richard and Doris Marle Frye. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Douglas Mackay, and her brother, Richard Frye, Jr.
Susan dedicated her life to the retail industry, enjoying the opportunity to connect with the public every day. Her keen sense of creativity was evident in her love for crafting, and she found joy in her culinary pursuits, bringing warmth and delight to those around her through her cooking. She will be deeply missed but remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know her.
Susan leaves behind a loving family, including her devoted husband, Michael Mackay, of their home; her children, Joseph Hinman and his wife Steffanie of California, Maryland, and Crystal Heater and her husband Brandon of Rochester, New York. She was a proud grandmother to August Hinman, Isabella Heater, and Gwendolyn Hinman. Susan is also survived by her sisters, Sandra Hall and her husband Bruce of Pembroke, New York, and Carol Whittington and her husband Keith of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Susan touched the lives of many with her kindness and love, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. In accordance with her family's wishes, a celebration of life service will be held at a later date to honor her memory.
