“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

On Sunday, February 22, 2026, Susan May finished her earthly race and went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Susan’s story began on October 17, 1957, in Huron, South Dakota. She grew up alongside her two sisters, Nancy Barco and Pat Glanzer. If you knew Susan, you knew she had a stubborn streak and a playful spirit. Her sister Nancy fondly recalled how Susan and Pat would always make her sit in the middle seat on family vacations just to tease her. “They were mean sisters,” Nancy would say with a smile, “but I wouldn’t trade any of them.”

On October 5, 1978, at the age of 20, Susan welcomed her daughter, Melissa Cady (May), into the world — one of her greatest joys in life. On March 13, 1987, she met Buddy May, and together they later welcomed her son, TJ May, on May 23, 1988.

In January 2026, Susan was diagnosed with lung cancer. Though her fight was short, she faced it with strength and determination, holding tightly to her faith until the very end.

Susan was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Earl Kline and Ardythe Groothuis (Kline, Merritt); her stepfather, Steve Merritt; her grandson, Austin Bowman; and many other loved ones who went before her.

She leaves behind a legacy of love through her sisters Pat(Levi) and Nancy(Phil). Her daughter Melissa Cady (Scott); her son, TJ May; Her Step kids Tony(Amy), Sarah(Chris) and Nikie(Brent) her grandchildren; Matthew(Devin), Kelli(Adam), Jack, Tyler(Madison), Jaiden, Lilly, Gabe, Logan, Londyn, Liam, Paige and Paityn; as well as her twelve great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.

Susan touched countless lives through her years of serving others in the drive-through at McDonald’s, where her friendly smile, quick wit, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on so many in the community. She never just handed out meals — she handed out warmth.

She also found joy working alongside Melissa, Scott, and Jaiden in the garage, always ready to lend a hand. Whether preparing for shows or greeting customers, Susan loved being part of the excitement surrounding Grandad Creations. Seeing the customers and supporting her family brought her tremendous pride and happiness.

In accordance with Susan’s wishes, a small family celebration of life will be held this summer, and no formal funeral service is planned. Condolences may be sent to 516 Sinclair Street, Gillette, Wyoming 82718.
