Susan McGuyer Obituary
Susan McGuyer was a loving and gentle soul whose presence made people feel instantly cared for. Those who spent time with her often said the same thing: she was such a sweet woman. Her life was marked by deep faith, kindness, and a love that flowed naturally to everyone around her.
Susan was, above all else, loving. While a quiet observer at times, she came fully alive around those she loved-full of joy, laughter, and warmth. Her home was a place of welcome, where people felt known and valued. She did not need to speak loudly to be heard; her love was expressed through her steady presence and faithful actions.
She was the devoted mother of Chris McGuyer and Andrea McGuyer, and the proud grandmother of five granddaughters: Zoe, Elizabeth, Sarah, Hannah, and Mary. Susan was nurturing, protective, and prayerful, always encouraging her children to grow, to persevere, and to trust in Jesus. Her faith was not reserved for Sundays alone but lived daily through Scripture, prayer, and complete trust in God's care.
Susan was never hesitant to pray with someone in need. When a friend or loved one shared a burden, she would gently reach out, hold their hands, and pray in that very moment-offering comfort, faith, and reassurance. Through her example, she played a foundational role in shaping the faith of her family and those around her.
Her love was also expressed through her hands. A talented seamstress, Susan lovingly made clothes for her children, including beautifully crafted western shirts for Chris during his high school and college years. When she became a grandmother, her creativity found new purpose as she sewed for her granddaughters. She also enjoyed cross-stitching, creating treasured pieces for her family, including a special pillow for Andrea and Christmas stockings for Chris, his wife Michelle, and each of her granddaughters-keepsakes now filled with even greater meaning.
Susan enjoyed introspective and thoughtful pastimes such as working puzzles, coloring, and occasionally writing short stories. She was also the family historian, sharing stories of her parents, siblings, and earlier generations, preserving memories that might otherwise have been forgotten.
Her love story with her husband, Jerry, began simply and sweetly. He first noticed her while she waited for her sister Anne at the store where he worked. What began as casual conversation grew into shared meals, then a lifetime together. Susan and Jerry were married for 57 years, united by love, faith, and companionship. In later years, they rarely wanted to be apart. After Jerry's passing in 2023, Susan missed him deeply and looked forward with hope to their reunion in Heaven.
Susan was also a provider and tireless worker. When her children were in college, she took on a second job to help with expenses. Though resources were modest, her children never felt lacking. Their parents ensured they were well cared for, encouraged, supported, and given opportunities to grow.
Some of Susan's most cherished memories were the summers spent camping with her family at Garner State Park. From tent camping and cooking on a Coleman stove to swimming and tubing the Frio River, hiking hills, exploring caves, watching wildlife, and attending the nightly country-and-western dances-those summers were filled with joy, laughter, and lasting memories.
Susan lived a life of love and faith, quietly serving her family and others; bringing light into the lives she touched. There was far more to her than many may have known, and those who truly knew her were blessed beyond measure.
As her children, we are forever grateful for her unwavering love, her faithful prayers, and the example of faith she lived out every day.
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
- 1 Corinthians 13:13
