Susan Jane McKimmy, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, and raised in Anderson, Indiana, Susan's life was a testament to her intelligence, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her family.
She graduated from Anderson High School and married the love of her life, Richard McKimmy, on June 29, 1968, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Their enduring marriage of 56 years was a cornerstone of her life, filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.
Susan was known for her sharp intellect, often besting even Jeopardy! contestants with her encyclopedic knowledge. Beyond her impressive brainpower, she was an exceptional cook, creating delicious meals that brought her family together. She possessed a remarkable ability to seamlessly weave teaching moments into everyday life, imparting wisdom and knowledge to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her passion for family was evident in every aspect of her life. She cherished spending time with them and found immense joy in their successes. Even her leisure time reflected this, as she delighted in watching the Houston Astros, particularly her favorite player, Jose Altuve.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Richard McKimmy; her daughters, Melissa Theriot and her husband, Shane Theriot of Columbus, and Kelly Zapalac of Sealy; her grandchildren, Samantha McKimmy and her fiancé, Preston White; Thomas Theriot (TJ) and his fiancée, Kelly Hutnan; Nicholas Robeson; Lucas Zapalac and his fiancée, Hattie Schalla; and Leah Zapalac; and her great-grandchildren, Chandler Kalinec, Emma McKimmy, Cayden Kalinec, Thomas Kalinec, Tynsley Theriot, and Lyla Theriot; sisters Jennie Thiede and Betty Cram of Anderson, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Marjorie Schriver; her sister, Becky Huff; and her brothers, Murrel Shiver, Johnny Schriver, and Junior; and her son-in-law, Eric Zapalac.
