Susan G. Medalla

Susan G. Medalla, age 85, of Milford, entered into rest on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of the late Leandro Medalla. Susan was born in Negros Occidental, Philippines, on May 1, 1940, the daughter of the late Agustin and Concepcion (Beson) Gutierrez, and lived in Milford for over 34 years.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Silliman University, was a faculty member at Ateneo de Davao University, and earned her master's degree in marine biology. In 1982, she was recognized and awarded the Outstanding Researcher of the Year by the National Science & Technology; in 1995, her published work in the Philippine Journal of Science on the 'Taxonomy and Distribution of Seagrasses in the Western Coast of the Gulf of Davao, Southern Philippines.' She was a former member of the American Health Information Management Association and a Senior Medical Coder at Bridgeport Hospital until her retirement. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing/quilting, gardening, and traveling.
She is the beloved mother of Paul Medalla and his spouse, Christopher La Bianca, and is also survived by several sister in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters in the Philippines.
The viewing will be on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:45 AM at Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby, CT 06418, (203) 735-0111. Her funeral procession will start at 11:00 AM, and upon arrival, her Catholic Mass will commence at 11:30 AM.
