Susan Nelson

Susan Nelson, age 72, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 20, 1953, in Chandler, Arizona, Susan was raised in a close and caring home by her parents, Joseph and Julia, alongside her four siblings, Joe, Mary, Mark, and Kathy. From an early age, she showed the compassion, strength, and selflessness that would define her life. Susan was the heart of her family, known for her steady presence, kind spirit, and endless generosity. Her greatest joy came from caring for others and creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.

Susan had many creative passions, including painting, drawing, and hairstyling. It was through her work as a hairdresser that she met the love of her life, Scott. What began as a simple haircut grew into a beautiful love story and a marriage of more than 37 years. Together, they raised their son, Taylor, supporting him in every sport, class, and job he pursued. Susan rarely missed a single hockey game, always cheering proudly from the stands and ensuring Taylor had everything he needed to thrive in the sport he loved.

Susan was admired for her resilience, strength, and unwavering kindness. Whether she was creating art, cheering on her grandchildren at their games, or spending time with family, she gave her whole heart. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, and deeply loved.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Scott; her son, Taylor (Carrie Nelson); and her three cherished grandchildren, Landon, Carter, and Adalyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Julia Hessinger, her sister-in-law Shelly Hessinger, and her nephew, Matthew Hessinger.

Although our hearts are heavy, we are deeply grateful for the time we shared with Susan. Her love remains woven into our lives, and her legacy will live on through the family she treasured and the countless lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 9:00 a.m. at Brophy Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, in her honor.

She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
