Susan Ann Peterson, age 70 of Westfield, lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. She was born on October 13, 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Reinhold and June (Feldmann) Karthauser.
Susan had a rare and beautiful gift— a deep connection to nature and a heart full of compassion for all living things. She spent countless hours in the company of animals, from the many pets she lovingly cared for to the wildlife she observed with awe and respect.
Susan will always be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering love for animals, and her profound connection to her loving husband and family.
Susan is survived by her husband, William Petersen; sister, Constance Fetzer; daughter, Sherri (John) Casper; son, Dana McNamara; grandchildren, Trevor, Hunter, Christian, Joseph, Trent, and Morgan, and many other relatives and friends. Susan was preceded in death by her parents and mother and father-in-law.
A visitation for Susan will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home in Westfield. A graveside service will follow the visitation at Westfield East Cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for caring for her in her finals day. As well as the oncology unit at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital where she received her cancer treatment.
