Susan Carol Slachta, the daughter of the late Caroline and Manuel Lewandrowski, passed away on April 29, 2025, in the Town of New Hartford, New York.
Susan was a devoted advocate for developmentally disabled citizens and taught special education at Clinton High School and Rome Development Center.
Susan dedicated her life to rescuing dogs to ensure the animals she loved had a secure and safe environment. Her Corgis, Willow and Cooper were her beloved companions for many years.
She leaves behind her former husband, Steven Slachta of Bonita Springs, Florida, and cousins, Dr. Noreen Lewandrowski-Dmitri (Mark) of Newport, Lorraine Lewandrowski, Esq. of Newport, Ferdinand Lewandrowski (Susan) of Newport, Anne Bazan (Paul) of Marcy, Christine Proulx (Rick) of Schuyler, Jan Lewandrowski (Suzanne) of Boyds, Maryland and Dr. Kent Lewandrowski (Elizabeth) of Boston, Massachusetts, and cousins John Tomasik (Maureen) of New Hartford, Janice Tomasik of Virginia, Richard Tarnowski of Utica, Joanie Felitto (Bryan) of Ogdensburg, Roman Tarnowski of Liverpool, David Tarnowski (Donna) of South Bend, Indiana, John Tarnowski (Leslie) of Utica; Elizabeth Kolano of Marcy, New York. Cousin, Edward Gonciarz, Esq. of Las Vegas, Nevada predeceased Susan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday, May 9, at 12 noon at McGrath, Myslinski, Kowalczyk & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Cemetery, Whitesboro.
The family wishes to acknowledge a special neighbor and friend, Jeff Hill, who was always available to provide care and assistance to Susan.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a humane society of your choice in memory of Susan.
