Susan Lindahl Springer

Susan Mae Jacobson was born to Lennert and Linnea Jacobson on April 25, 1943, in Worcester, Massachusetts. She and her identical twin, Sally, and their sister, Nancy, grew up happily in a tight-knit community that revolved around an extended family and their Bethlehem Covenant Church. Even a devastating tornado couldn't shake their strong roots. When the Jacobsons moved to San Jose, California, they immediately found a church family at San Jose Covenant.
When Sue pursued a degree, she chose North Park College (now University), a Covenant institution in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated with a BA in Business in 1965. When she returned to California, she added a California Teaching Credential and became a kindergarten teacher at Turlock Christian School. On August 12, 1967, she married Warren Vincent Lindahl in a double ceremony with Sally and Dale Young in San Jose, Santa Clara County. The two couples raised their families close by one another and the cousins were more like siblings. This allowed the twins to spend precious time together.
After the birth of their son, Brett, the Lindahls moved from San Jose to Turlock in 1971 to raise a family. Soon, Janelle made the family complete. At Beulah (Turlock) Covenant Church they were active members for 30 years and enjoyed fellowship with family and life-long good friends.
Warren and Sue enjoyed entertaining and travel. Sue was especially proud of their Swedish heritage and taught her children (and anyone who would listen) about their roots. She collected dala horses and cooked Swedish specialties, visited their homeland, and found the places where ancestors came from. Sue and Warren celebrated in Swedish style, sharing their culture with one and all. Sue especially loved the Christmas season and incorporated traditions old and new. San Francisco was a favorite destination for day trips as well as holiday excursions with friends and family.
Sue was especially happy working with the youngest and the oldest of her community. After her kindergarten days, she worked at Covenant Village and later became Director of Sequoia, an assisted living facility. The work brought her great satisfaction and she excelled in each position. Friendships forged in these years remained strong even when she and Warren moved away after their children were grown.
In 2000, Sue retired and they moved to Westminster, Colorado for his work, There they joined Arvada Covenant Church. The next move was to Bishop, California where they attended the Presbyterian Church, where they were welcomed with open arms. They were expecting to celebrate 40 years of marriage, but their happiness was cut short when Warren died suddenly in 2007.
Sue returned to Turlock to family and friends who helped her through her grief. She reconnected and began to build her life back up. In 2012, one of those old friends, Paul Springer, proposed and Sue accepted. They were married on September 15 of that year. They established a home together in Turlock. Four years later, in 2016, they moved to Kenbridge, Virginia to look after his aging father. By 2019 they had returned to Turlock. She counted herself blessed to have had eight years of marriage before he passed away in 2021.
As her friends know, Sue's last years were not easy. She found solace in her faith, listening to Christian music and reading Scriptures. A favorite verse was John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Other favorite verses include 1 Corinthians 13:4-5; Jeremiah 29:11-14 and Hebrews 11-1.
Susan Lindahl Springer was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Nancy; and her husbands, Warren Lindahl and Paul Springer.
She is survived by her twin sister, Sally Ann Jacobson Young; her son, Brett Lindahl (Julie) and their son, Jacob; her daughter, Janelle (Dan) Young and her sons, Matthew Comfort (Angela), Ethan Comfort (Juliette), and David Comfort.
