Susan Waite, 79, passed away at her home in Lake Bluff on December 16, 2024. Born on May 14, 1945, she was the devoted wife of 57 years to Robert Waite. Susan was the proud mother of Kendall (Benjamin) Haight and Christian (Megan) Waite, and cherished grandmother, or "Sookie" to her adored grandchildren Myles and Ainsley Haight and Elle and Luke Waite. Her grandchildren gave her so much joy.
Susan was born in Allentown, PA to Myles and Mabel Miller. She spent her high school years in Norwich, NY, and graduated from Skidmore College. It was in college during spring break in Bermuda that she met her husband Robert and their life together began.
Susan lived most of her adult life in Winnetka, IL. She loved to be involved and to volunteer- whether it be PTA president of Hubbard Woods School, an event chair at Lake Forest Academy, or hosting legendary lasagna dinners for Chris' New Trier football team before a big game. Susan was the ultimate cheerleader, from her days at Norwich High School to cheering on her children and grandchildren in sporting events and in life. She and Robert enjoyed traveling, especially to their favorite destination, St. Barth. Susan loved reading, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and her black labs. Her beloved lab Sydney was by her side constantly, giving her much comfort to the very end.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
