Susan S. Ward, age 75, passed away peacefully on August 9th, 2024, surrounded by her Family.
She was born on January 6th, 1949 in Plattsburgh NY; born to Chester and Virginia Sheffield. They lived most of their lives in Au Sable Forks, NY.
Susan graduated from Au Sable Valley High School. She worked at CVPH as a CNA. Later in her career, she made the switch to a Pharmacy Technician.
Susan was known for her tenacious and sassy attitude. Bingo was her passion. She enjoyed a good and intense game, like so many. She also had a soft and sweet side to her as well. When she wasn't with Family, she spent most of her time with her Horses. She loved Horseback Riding. She'd always tell stories of her "favorite" Horse, Ginger Gal. And in more recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her cat, Jasper, and sharing her love of Filet Mignon and Hot Fudge Sundaes with him.
She also enjoyed doing everything with her Husband, Dennis Ward. They were inseparable. They had a love like no other. Dennis always made sure Susan was taken care of and had the best of everything in life, as she did for him as well.
Left to cherish her Memory is her daughter, Tricia Ward-LaFountain; her sister, Vickie Trombley (Gary); along with many Cousins, and her cat, Jasper.
Susan had been under the care of High Peaks Hospice as well, and the Family wanted to take a moment to thank them for all they've done in caring for her; as well as her Private Aides: Sarah LaFountain, Tiffany LaFountain, Brandi DeLeo, Denise Giddings, Elizabeth Miller and Melanie Rheaume. The patience, love and care you showed her were a constant source of strength, and truly a blessing. We are forever thankful.
Susan is predeceased by her loving and adoring Husband of 57 years, Dennis G Ward; as well as her son-in-law, Ricky LaFountain, and her parents, Chester and Virginia Sheffield.
Services will be private at the convenience of her family.
In lieu of Flowers, we have asked that donations be made to: The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary.
Their purpose is to provide not only freedom for unadoptable and unwanted wild horses, but also a research area dedicated to solving wild horse herd management that will contribute to the well-being of wild horses everywhere. They do not receive any state or federal funding to care for hundreds of America's wild horses. The horses rely completely on the generosity of donors.
Their website is: www.wildmustangs.com/donate. Or if you prefer to mail your donations, their address is: IRAM PO Box 998 Hot Springs SD 57747.
Physical address is: 12163 Highland Road Hot Springs, SD 57747.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 518-643-9055.
