Susan Marie (Mueggenberg) Wendt was born on March 28, 1960, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon and Mary (Meighan) Mueggenberg. She was baptized on April 2, 1960 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda and later confirmed her faith on November 23, 1969 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail. She grew up in Vail and attended Kuemper Catholic School, where she received her education and developed a strong foundation of faith. In 1976, Susan completed the Nursing Assistant Training Program that was sponsored by Eventide Lutheran Home. After receiving her G.E.D., she obtained her Dental Assistant Diploma in 1986.
On October 20, 1990, Susan was united in marriage with Jeffrey Wendt. Together, they built a life centered around faith, family, love, and cherished memories. Susan and Jeff were blessed with three beautiful children: Jason, Jeffrey Jr., and Rebecca and they made their home in Denison.
Throughout her life, Susan held various jobs, including babysitting, working at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, and Farmland until her retirement in 2012. Susan had a vibrant spirit and compassionate heart. She had a knack for making others feel comfortable in her presence, always going out of her way to offer a helping hand whenever someone was in need.
She enjoyed playing casino games, puzzles, traveling, camping, and exploring new places. She cherished visiting her aunt, Ione Hinners over the years. Susan had a nurturing spirit, unwavering love, and an ability to bring joy to those around her. Above all, Susan's greatest passion was her family and her love for her animals. She enjoyed every moment spent with her loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
Susan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, attaining the age of 63 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jason Wendt; sister, Debra Davisson; and brothers: Michael and Roger Mueggenberg.
Susan's memory will forever be cherished by her devoted husband, Jeff Wendt Sr. of Denison; son, Jeff Wendt Jr. of Duncombe; daughter, Rebecca of Glenwood; one grandson, William of Sioux City; siblings: Paul Mueggenberg and Karen Bertrand of Des Moines, Allen Mueggenberg of Quapaw, OK; Barbara Stevens and husband Rodney of Heber Springs, AR; Steven Mueggenberg and wife Karrie of Quapaw, OK, Sharon Rooney and Tom Mueggenberg and wife Theresa all of Joplin, MO; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail with burial to follow in the St. Ann Cemetery in Vail. Memorials may be directed to the family.
