Susanne May Deering of Cheshire, CT passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025 at the age of 86. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 1, 1939 to William H. Deering and Lydia May (née Norman) Deering.

Left to mourn are her three daughters (née White), Margaret (Patrick) Doyle, Allison (Walter) Carboni, and Barbara (Walter) Mazzoni, and her dearly loved grandchildren Emily, Olivia, Benjamin, William, Andrew, Sean and Matthew. Also left to mourn are her brother William (Lynn) Deering and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Lawrence Frederick (Freddie) Deering and by her beloved partner Joseph M. Kornfeld (Grandpa Joe).

Susanne grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts until the age of fifteen when the family moved to Bay Roberts, Newfoundland, her parents’ hometown. She graduated from the Amalgamated School in Bay Roberts and completed a business school program in St. John’s, Newfoundland. In later years, Susanne earned an associate’s degree from Gateway Community College. She greatly valued education and always encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue higher learning.

Susanne spent most of her career as an executive assistant in the healthcare industry, most recently at Physicians Health Services/Health Net.

Susanne enjoyed all the arts, especially attending Joe’s dramatic performances at Hartford Stage. She and Joe went to many concerts, museums and theatrical productions, both in Connecticut and on Broadway.

Susanne was an avid reader and a frequent patron of the Cheshire Public Library. She also participated in the Sherlock Holmes Society monthly book group sponsored by the Cheshire Senior Center. She was a skilled knitter, a fabulous soup maker, as well as a rescue dog lover.

Susanne was a longtime member at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the altar guild and a vestry member.

Susanne’s greatest legacies are the love she had for her family, the strength of her convictions and her generous spirit.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a memorial service on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at St. Peter’s Church, 59 Main Street in Cheshire. Guests may gather at St. Peter’s at 12 p.m. with the service to begin at 1 p.m. Burial of her ashes will take place in Newfoundland at a later date.

Donations in Susanne’s memory may be made to The Cheshire Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 457, 175 Sandbank Rd., Cheshire, CT 06410 or to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
