Susie Elizabeth (Kraay) Veldman, 96, passed away peacefully at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community on July 31. She was born August 7, 1927, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, to Susie and Case Kraay of Hollandale. She attended school in Hollandale and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1945.
She was united in marriage to Bill Veldman on May 10, 1945. They were both life-long residents of Hollandale. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. Her freezer was always full of freshly baked goodies that her kids often enjoyed without her knowledge! Grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed her “told-tookies” from her freezer.
Mom loved the Lord and that faith was shared with her children and grandchildren. She was a life-long member of the Hollandale Reformed Church, where she was active in the choir, Triple Trio Vocal Group, played the organ and piano, and participated in many of the women’s groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bill; her parents; grandson Todd; son-in-law Gene; two sisters and three brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Sandy (Jim) VanderSyde, Susan DenHerder, Bob (Maureen) Veldman, and Rick (Carolyn) Veldman; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; her brother Bob Kraay, sisters-in-law Darlene Kraay and Marilyn Veldman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services to honor and celebrate Mom’s life will be held at the Hollandale Reformed Church on Wed., Aug. 7, 2024, which was also her birthday. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 a.m. with the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Hollandale Cemetery following the service. Memorials can be made out to the Hollandale Reformed Church or Hollandale Cemetery.
