Suzanne Berent Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haben Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 12, 2026.
Suzanne G. Berent, née Ritchey, age 81, of the Chicago area, died Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in Mundelein. Devoted daughter of the late Harold and Margaret, née Eby, Ritchey, she was born January 28, 1945, in Chicago.

Former wife of the late Edmund Berent; beloved mother of Catherine (Anthony) Nitti and Craig (Caprece) Berent; loving grandmother of Nicole (Michael) George, Gabrielle (Kedsana) Boudsady, and Alessandra and Juliana Nitti; dear sister of Sharon Simmons.

Sue was the heart of her home – a steady presence, a gentle guide, and a source of unwavering love. Her days were shaped by acts of care both large and small: warm meals prepared without request, thoughtful phone calls just to check in, handwritten birthday cards filled with encouragement, and hugs that made everything feel right again. She had a remarkable gift for making each person feel seen, valued, and deeply loved.

As a mother, she led with patience, strength, and quiet wisdom. She taught by example – showing her children the meaning of kindness, resilience, and integrity. Her sacrifices were made without fanfare, her support freely given, and her pride in her family evident in every story she shared.

As a grandmother, she found her purest delight. Whether attending school events, cheering from the sidelines, baking favorite treats, or simply listening to stories about their day, she made each grandchild feel like her greatest treasure. Her laughter filled rooms, and her arms were always open.

Sue believed that family was life's greatest blessing. Holidays were her masterpiece – tables filled with favorite dishes, traditions lovingly preserved, and generations gathered together in warmth and gratitude. The memories created under her care will continue to bind her family together for years to come.

Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the love she gave so freely, and the strong, compassionate family she nurtured. Her life was a testament to devotion, generosity, and enduring grace. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
