Gregory Berent Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Oct. 29, 2025.
January 1, 1947 – October 27, 2025
Gregory James Berent passed from this life on October 27, 2025, at the age of 78. Greg was a memorable character, who was known for his quirky sense of humor and always brought a laugh to each person he met.
Originally from Chicago, Greg had moved to Southern California, where he and his wife, Patti, started their family. They moved to Reno, Nevada to raise the kids. When their grown children eventually settled in Oklahoma, Greg and Patti followed, setting down new roots close to them.
Greg enjoyed spending time with his family, including semi-annual family trips to amusement parks with the kids, teaching them to snow ski and exploring "secret parks" around Reno. In his later years, he enjoyed fishing with his grandson and best buddy, Jameson. Whatever he did, Greg made it memorable. Greg had a long and successful career as a criminal investigator for the IRS and served with dedication for over 30 years. He was well liked and respected by colleagues and friends alike. In retirement, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and faithfully cheered on the Chicago Bears every football season.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patti; daughters Robyn Berent and Dyan Fleming (Zach Fleming); son Terrence Berent and grandson Jameson Fleming. He is survived by two sisters, Rita McNicholas and MaryJo Daly, and his brother, James Berent.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Gertrude Berent; brothers, Dennis, Martin, and Edward Berent.
Greg will always be remembered for his humor, curiosity, and the joy he brought to everyone he loved.

I worked with Greg and we had great conversations. He always made me laugh; he was the sweetest man. I appreciate his kindness and how much fun he made the job.
