Suzanne Aul Jeffery, formerly of West Caton, New York, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born and grew up during the Depression and World War II in
Espy, Pennsylvania.
Suzanne met the love of her life, William James Jeffery, Sr., at a roller rink in Berwick, Pennsylvania, and they were married in October of 1950. Suzanne's parents died in the 1950s, and by 1960, the family had moved to a house by a stream in West Caton, New York. There, they raised four sons, Ralph, William, Harry and Philip.
Suzanne's career included roles at the College Center of the Finger Lakes, Corning Inc., and Kennedy Valve. She was a member of the
Corning, New York Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Suzanne led a very active volunteer life, serving as a pianist at several Southern Tier organizations and as a docent at the Corning Museum of Glass. Additionally, she served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) supporting the needs of foster children.
When routine surgery left her with severe hearing loss early in her life, Suzanne became an advocate for that community. She was a member of the Say What Club and Self Help for the Hard of Hearing (SHHH), organizations dedicated to the use of emerging technologies to adapt to life with hearing loss.
In her free time, Suzanne enjoyed several hobbies-knitting and crocheting, reading, and listening to music. In her later years, her iPad was a constant companion, allowing her to stay up-to-date on events and connecting her with friends near and far.
Devotion to her family was a hallmark of Suzanne's life. She cherished every moment spent in the presence of those she loved. Among her favorite times were the summer camping trips and beach vacations with her four boys and their families as well as trips to Watkins Glen for NASCAR races. Suzanne loved to travel; she and her husband once took an unforgettable trip to Alaska in an RV, indulging in their spirit of adventure. The couple also took memorable fishing trips to northern Canada.
After her husband's death, Suzanne continued traveling. Her journeys included cruises to Alaska and the west coast of South America and a passage through the Panama Canal.
Suzanne was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Margaret Aul; her brothers, Henry and Ralph Aul; a sister, Geraldine; her husband, William James "Jim" Jeffery, Sr.; and her daughter-in-law, Linda McInroy Jeffery. She is survived by her four sons: Ralph of Easley, South Carolina; William James, Jr. and his wife, Karyn of Pompano Beach, Florida; Harry and his wife Annette (Lynn) of Eatontown, New Jersey; and Philip of Marietta, Georgia. Suzanne was a loving grandmother to ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family is immensely grateful to Harry and Lynn Jeffery for providing a safe and comfortable home for Suzanne for the past thirteen years. As Suzanne's health declined, their role in caring for her increased dramatically. They met every challenge with love and devotion, and we are eternally grateful to them.
A Committal Service will be held for Suzanne on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 12 noon at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 East 1st St.,
Corning, New York. Private burial to follow in Barnard Cemetery in Corning.
Suzanne's family has entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
