Suzanne “Suzy” S. Burton (née Selzle), 85, of Sandwich, IL passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025.
Beloved wife of Tom Burton for over 61 years. Loving mother of Tom Jr. (Jill) and Scott Burton. Devoted grandmother of Tom III, David (Sydni), Denham Lizzio, Jessica Lizzio, and Ben Burton. Cherished great-grandmother of Brooks Burton.
Suzy was born on January 15, 1940, in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, to Leo and Gertrude Selzle. She attended St. Bride’s Elementary School and St. Peter and Paul High School. After graduation, Suzy followed in her father’s footsteps to Swift & Company, where she began her own path as a receptionist in the purchasing department.
On April 18, 1964, Suzy married the love of her life, Tom Burton. Soon after, she left her job to focus on what she cherished most — being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother — for her family was the heart of her world.
Suzy’s life was filled with faith, kindness, and devotion to her family. She loved studying the Bible, volunteering at church, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her beloved cats. She had a keen sense of humor, a gentle soul, and a giving heart that inspired everyone who knew her.
Suzy will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her spirit will live on through the love, faith, and family she nurtured throughout her life.
