West Lafayette - Suzette Ann (Scott) Melson, 98, of West Lafayette, Indiana died December 22, 2025 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus in West Lafayette. She was born December 8, 1927 in Anderson, Indiana to Horace and Thelma (Cook) Scott. She married Oscar Melson, Jr. on July 17, 1949, and he preceded her in death on January 15, 2006.

Suzette graduated from Anderson High School in 1945 and believed "once an Indian, always an Indian." She enjoyed staying connected with members of her high school class and helped with high school reunions over the years. Before leaving Anderson in 2006, she attended monthly lunches with other 1945 grads - The Victory Girls. They adopted this name because all their high school years were during World War II.

After graduation, Suzette worked at the Anderson Banking Company and became friends with Patty McGuire. Eventually, she moved in with the McGuire's - her second "family" - who treated her as one of their own. She and Patty became best friends and sorority sisters for over 50 years, and their two families were very close.

Suzette and Oscar had two children - Chris and Susan. Suzette worked at the bank after Chris was born, but stayed home after Susan came along. Later she returned to the bank and worked in customer service and bookkeeping until retiring in 1989. During these years, Suzette was active in the Business and Professional Women's network and the American Business Women's Association. She was a 70 year member of Delta Sigma Kappa philanthropic sorority and was able to join the Lafayette and Otterbein chapters when she moved from Anderson. Suzette was a 50 plus years member of Anderson's First United Methodist Church.

An only child, Suzette kept busy and had many interests, hobbies, and collections. She was creative, organized, and fashionable. Even in later years, her home was neat and decorated for every holiday. She often referred to herself as a "golf widow" because Oscar played lots of golf during retirement, and Suzette never drove. She enjoyed traveling and had fond memories of vacations to Cuba, San Francisco Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas. She and Susan had memorable trips together to Savannah, Charleston, Washington D.C., and Disney World.

After Oscar's death in 2006, Suzette move to West Lafayette to be closer to Susan. She and Susan's mother-in-law, Gloria Huffman, became friends and attended activities together.

Suzette is survived by her daughter, Susan (Dave) Huffman of Lafayette. Also surviving are three "bonus" grandchildren Ernie Huffman (Alison), Eric Huffman (Lindsey), and Abby Beers (Oliver) and six "bonus" great-grandchildren including Will and Lily Huffman, Max and Katelyn Huffman, and Avery and Alexis Beers. Also surviving are special friends, Joe Hilburt and family.

Besides her husband, Suzette was preceded in death by her son, Chris, her parents, aunt, and grandparents.

Funeral services will be conducted in Anderson at Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory, Brown-Butz-Diedring Chapel, 515 East 53rd Street, Anderson, Indiana 46013 on Tuesday, December, 30 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. A Private Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Suzette loved flowers, but contributions are also welcome to First United Methodist Church in Anderson, Indiana.

So sorry to read about your Mother's death. She was so friendly towards me and gave me compliments on my leadership in sorority. Even though I wasn't around her before she joined Otterbein group, I felt blessed to have known her.
