Ms Burns was always on top of things, making us all aware of how physical activities makes us better students, thinkers. She knew so much about Volleyball and lead our team to many victories. I was not on any Sports teams at Leon Godchaux/East St. John, but you couldn't ever miss Ms. Burns! She was a presence at school for many years. She will be missed dearly, I am sure , by her family.

Sybil and I played basketball together from our Sophomore - Senior years at Hammond High. We had some great times and great games. In addition, Sybil's beloved cousin Theojoal Hyde who was also on our Team, married my brother, Chike Powell, which made us "cousins-by-marriage".
Sybil was a star basketball player who was always generous, kind and exhibited impressive sportsmanship to everyone she met. I know she went on to be a mentor to many young women under her supervision as a teacher in Reserve for many years. Her smiling face and welcoming attitude will be missed by all who knew her.

I offer my sincere condolences on your loss of Sybil Burns. Ms. Burns was my volleyball coach at East St. John High School (1976 - 1980). She was a wonderful coach, teacher and mentor. Ms. Burns had a way of making us better (as a team and as an individual) than we thought we could be.
May she rest in peace. With sympathy, Loretta Vicknair

Ms. Burns was my PE teacher and dance team & cheerleader sponsor. She was one of the best memories I have of high school. She was so full of love for all of us, and it showed in everything she did. I have thought about her so many times over the years and wondered where she was. I know she will be missed by all of her family members, and students.
Saying prayers for all of you.
