Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - OlatheSybil Jean Kramer, 77, of Mission, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Sybil was a lifelong Lutheran teacher, dedicating more than five decades to education. She taught for 12 years in Memphis, Tennessee, 35 at St. Peter’s Lutheran School Arlington Heights, Illinois, followed by another 7 years as a substitute teacher. During her time at St. Peter’s, Sybil primarily taught 1st and 2nd grades, served in special education, and public-school confirmation. She directed middle school dramas, the primary school choir, and wrote and directed primary school operettas.
Beyond the classroom, Sybil wore many hats: she was the school photographer, editor of the yearbook, and the beloved “Pocket Lady” at the church’s annual picnics. She also shared her musical gifts as a member of the church choir and the handbell choir.
In 2022, Sybil moved to Mission, Kansas, where she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. There she joyfully participated in the Trinity Choir, Vacation Bible School, and Sunday School mentoring.
Sybil’s dedication to children and families was an inspiration to all who knew her, and her love for Jesus was evident in everything she did.
Sybil was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Leona Kramer; her sister, Leta King; and her nephew, Joshua Kramer. She is survived by her sisters Annette, Janice, and Judy (Jerry) Palmer; her brothers Alvin (Mary Menard) and Ron (Kathleen); brother-in-law Rodney King; her aunt Dorothy Kramer; as well as five nieces, two nephews, two great-nephews, and three great-nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5601 West 62nd Street, Mission, KS 66202.
