Thomas Allen Salz, known to those who loved him simply as Tom, passed away on November 5, 2025, at the age of 69. Born in Streator, Illinois, Tom later made his home in Olathe, Kansas, where he and his wife, Rita, built a life filled with love, laughter, and music.
Tom and Rita were married in 1980 and recently celebrated 45 wonderful years together this past September. Theirs was a partnership grounded in friendship, humor, and shared joy — the kind of love that grew stronger with each passing year. Together, they raised two daughters, Jessica (Justin) Wardle and Jacqueline (Michael) Sutton, and later welcomed six grandchildren — Henry, Bennett, Evelyn, Juniper, Noah, and Mae — who became the heart of his world.
Tom earned a master’s degree from the University of Missouri–Rolla and spent his career as a computer programmer. Friends and family alike admired his kindness, humor, and his ability to make even ordinary moments special.
Music was a constant in Tom’s life. From the time he was young, he played guitar — both electric and acoustic — and it remained one of his greatest joys. Whether he was playing a favorite song at home or sharing music with his daughters, music was how Tom expressed love and connection.
Some of his happiest moments were the simplest ones: sitting with his grandchildren, laughing, playing video games, and enjoying their company. Those memories — filled with laughter, melody, and warmth — are what his family will carry with them always.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Irene Salz, and his brother, Denny. He is survived by his sister, Linda (Joe) Brown. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a reminder to find joy in life’s small, beautiful moments.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm. Services will be held at Penwell-Gabel in Olathe, Kansas.
