Gregory Salz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 10, 2025.
Gregory G. Salz, 66 years old, passed peacefully in his sleep April 5th, 2025. He is proceeded in death by his parents Donald G. Salz and Carol F. Salz (Luke), as well as a baby sister Judy Salz.

Born in Dubuque Iowa, Greg's family moved to Tempe when Greg was only four years old-so he considered himself a native Arizonan. Greg is survived by his wife Stephanie L Ruiz-Salz (Harris), his siblings Andrew (Andy) Salz, Debbie Ogle, Mary (Ginger) Sexton, Donna Issenmann as well as three step-children Arturo G Ruiz, Adriana Ruiz and Alexis S. Ruiz.

Greg was an avid golfer and at one time a golf pro for Francisco Grande in Casa Grande, and Desert Highlands in Scottsdale. He also golfed with The Tempe Men's Club Ken McDonald as well as most recently The Fifty Club at Dobson Ranch. His legendary stories of golfing with and meeting many celebrities will be missed-especially challenging Michael Jordan to a driving contest. He had achieved at least five hole-in-ones in his lifetime of golf, the most recent at Ken McDonald, Hole number 6 from 203 yards.

He loved volunteering for the community and spent many years with the Fiesta Bowl, also several years with Arizona Sport and Entertainment Commission at the Tucson Bowl. For decades, he helped set up golf tournaments in Mesa and Pinetop. A little-known fact is that Greg used to teach Country Swing dancing at various western nightclubs around Mesa. He loved ASU Sun Devils, and any Arizona sporting team, as well as his Tempe High School Buffaloes.

Greg's career shifted to the mining industry, where he spent the last 14 years as an electrical salesman for PowerTec (formerly AEA Electrical) in Tucson AZ. He spent every week putting at least 1200 miles on his truck to visit each of the mines in his territory throughout Arizona and New Mexico. He has left a void within his wonderful company PowerTec and the many customers he visited weekly.

A Mass was celebrated on Friday May 9th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tempe, AZ, and a Celebration of Life on Saturday May 10th at Event Center 4 Rent in Tempe, AZ.
