Sylita Johnson

Sylita K. Johnson was born on April 24, 1959 to the late Joe and Sallie Johnson. On Saturday, October 11, 2025 at George Washington Hospital in Washington, D.C. Sylita received her Heavenly Wings.

Sylita was baptized at the Hassidiah Baptist Church at a young age where she served in the junior choir for numerous year's until she graduated from Sussex Central High School Class of 1977. She studied Psychology at Virginia State University before deciding to move to Washington, DC where she worked for the DC Public school system for numerous years and went on to become a TSA Agent.

Sylita was a devoted member of the Washington, D.C. community whose compassion and dedication touched countless lives. In 2011, she volunteered with Our DC, an organization committed to ensuring that the voices of unemployed and underemployed residents were heard. Her service with Our DC represented only a fraction of her lifelong commitment to advocacy, community empowerment, and helping others succeed. Beyond her community work, Sylita found joy in life's simple pleasures. She cherished time spent with her beloved grandchildren, she enjoyed sewing, her love of flowers, and often expressed her wit and humor through playful conversations with her children. She loved listening to music and relaxing with her favorite game (FarmVille). Sylita's exuberant spirit uplifted everyone she encountered. Her laughter, wisdom, and unwavering strength left a lasting legacy of love, perseverance, and grace.

Sylita leaves to cherish her memories two daughters; Briana and Deirdre Johnson, one son; Javelle Johnson, five grandchildren; Bryant Woodland III, Amir Hopkins, Astrid and Arden Johnson, and Tiana Butler, one sister; Joyce Mason of Jarratt, VA, two brothers; Jerome Johnson (Florence) of Emporia, VA and Joel Johnson ( Stephanie) of Stony Creek, VA, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and special friends to include; Brenda Jefferson- Lewis, Jean Sharpe, and Anita Cooke.
