Sylvester Jackson, 73, a native of Hortense, GA and resident of Jesup, GA passed away on Monday, September 09, 2024 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on September 06, 1951 to the late Pink Jackson and Hester Jacobs-Jackson in Brantley County, GA. Sylvester was educated in Wayne County Training School in Jesup, GA. He was a member of Greater St. James Temple of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. under the leadership of Pastor Havannah Green. Sylvester was a former employee and retiree of the City of Jesup after (38) years of service. In his free time, he enjoyed sports, hunting and spending time with his family. Many was unaware that Sylvester was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.
Sylvester was preceded in death by both parents, Pink Jackson and Hester Jacobs-Jackson; a son, Derrick Jackson; a daughter, Yolanda Dismuke; a sister, Nancy Reddish and a brother, Henry Jackson.
Those left to cherish his memories: his wife of (26) years, Julia Ann Johnson-Jackson, Jesup, GA; a son, Edmond Jackson, Folkston, GA; two daughters, Tonya (Kevin) Barnes, Lousiana and Jullisa Jones, South Carolina; his sisters-in-law, Wanda (Travis) Wilson, Opelika, AL; his brothers-in-law, Lamar (Aina) Hardy, Jesup, GA, Donald Hardy, Dublin, GA, Mike Hardy, Jr, Macon, GA and Robert E. Copeland, Jesup, GA; (12) grandchildren; (8) great-grandchildren; a close friend, Harry Bennett, Jesup, GA and a host of other family members and friends who will miss his loving smile.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 12 noon until 5 pm at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545. The family will gather at the home of Sylvester and Julia Jackson (56 Barn Circle, Jesup, GA) following the viewing. Please join the family there.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 @ 11:00 am at Jesup City Cemetery, N. 1st Street, Jesup, GA 31545.
There will not be a repast following services, however the family will gather at Family Tradition (formerly Western Sizzlin) in which each guest would be responsible for their meal.
