MONROE - Sylvester Knotts, 69, was born on August 20, 1954, to Josephine Caraway Knotts Sturdivant and Robert Covington Knotts in Anson County, NC. He departed this life on January 6, 2024, at Atrium Health Union in Monroe, NC.
He was a 1973 graduate of Thomasville Sr High School. He graduated from Jamestown Community College in Jamestown, NC in 1976. He began his professional nursing career at Thomasville Medical Center. His friends affectionately referred to him as Doc.
Sylvester was a pioneer for males in the field of nursing. He had a stellar nursing career working at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC as a Medical Surgical Nurse. His years in New York City were spent working as a critical care nurse and home health nurse. He subsequently went on to work at elite institutions such as the University of Michigan, Ann-Arbor. His career was varied and impressive. He was lauded by his co workers for being an excellent nurse who had no problem making doctors and other nurses sweat the small stuff if the need arose.
He was a member of Christ Bible Discipleship Worship Center in Marshville, NC where he served on the cooking committee.
Although his journey through this life was filled with storm surges, he found peace, calm and comfort in the company of his beloved Mother who preceded him in transitioning from this earthly plane.
Sylvester, affectionately known as Pee Wee by his family, leaves behind seven siblings: Diane Knotts Byrd (Bobby) of Hamlet NC; Bobie Murphy (Johnny) of Chicago, IL; Kenny Ann Staton (Greg) of Marshville, NC; Robert Knotts Sr. (Linda) of Thomasville, NC; Terry Knotts (Barbara) of King, NC; Marilyn Knotts of Pembroke NC and Gary Knotts (Everlyne) of Greensboro, NC, who will never allow him to be forgotten or dismissed. His earthly journey is over, and God has opened the gates of heaven and welcomed him to everlasting joy.
Sylvester also leaves a great host of cousins, nieces, nephews and innumerable family and friends. Go well and walk steady now, Brother.
As Sylvester rests in peace, so let us honor that peace among us.
There will be a memorial service at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Christ Bible Discipleship Worship Center in Marshville.
The family will greet friends following the service.
