Sylvia Jean von Meeteren Corbett, 99, died on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at her home in East Peoria IL.

She was born February 24, 1926, in Chicago Il, the daughter of Rudolph John von Meeteren and Josephine van Hanxleden von Meeteren. She graduated in 1947 from College of St. Francis in Joliet Illinois and worked as a teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. She married Edward Joseph Corbett in Chicago on July 3, 1954. They had seven children.

She later taught grade school and high school in Springfield and Peoria and retired from the IRS where she worked as a tax preparer. She enjoyed listening to jazz and opera, reading, and extensive traveling. She probably loved best the time she spent with family.

Surviving are three daughters: Judy Sharp (Dave), Jan Corbett (Randy Kiefner), and Joanne Corbett; two sons: Jim Corbett and Joe Corbett (Cheri); five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons John Corbett and Jerry Corbett; her brother, Hank von Meeteren; her sister-in-law, Jan von Meeteren; and her cousins Barbara McBride, Rich Lucas, Dan Lucas, and Sylvia Ramsey.

There will be a visitation at 10:30am followed by a funeral Mass at 11am at St. Monica's Catholic Church in East Peoria on Thursday, July 24, 2025. Sylvia has chosen to donate her body to science; inurnment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria at a later date.
