Sylvia Mae Davis passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024 in Vian, Oklahoma.
Born in Muldrow, Oklahoma on April 4, 1931 to Hettie Lee Seaton Edwards and Albert Edwards, she was one of nine children. She would tell us the stories of her childhood - the long walks to school, sharing her days with a brother who was more like a twin they were so close in age. Meeting our paw-paw, Carl Melvin Davis when she was only 15 at a baseball game in Belfont. Watching Gene Autry on the movie screen in Nicut, and leaving the comfort of her family behind to start a family of her own so far away. Ever stubborn and determined, she dedicated her days to building a life that would grow to be so different than the one she had been born to.
She and Carl Davis were married September 5, 1946 in Van Buren, Arkansas. They welcomed a daughter Barbara in 1948, and a second daughter, Vickie, in 1953. They would return home a couple of times a year to take their girls to see family. Taking them swimming off Bradley Ford Bridge in Little Lee Creek. Their family home would be in Erick, Oklahoma for most of their lives. They would raise their daughters and see their grandchildren grow up and have families of their own.
Sylvia worked at the B&O in Erick and later owned a flower shop then finally spent years working at Puckett’s Grocery Store until she retired. Their later years, she and her husband moved back full circle to the area where they grew up. She would spend the next 20 years living in Muldrow, Oklahoma. She worked at Muldrow schools as a classroom assistant. All of her students called her “Granny”. She was excellent at the role of Granny. Her door was always open. Our meals were always customized to each of us, even Paw-paw! She made Christmases unforgettable. From the simple life that she came from, the contrast of the abundance that she gave all of us was beautiful. Every single weekend when we were young, her house was full of grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sibling, brothers, Euland, and William; sisters, Charlene, Evonne, and Anna Mae; her husband of 58 years, Carl Davis, and her beloved grandson, Mark York.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara York of Elk City, OK and Vickie Maines of Roland, OK; her granddaughter, Melinda Karl and her husband, Hank of Roland, OK; her granddaughter, Lindy and her husband, Michael Poole of Elk City, OK; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Katelyn, & Connely of Elk City, OK; her grandson, Adam; her granddaughter, Angie and Joe Deleon and great-grandchildren, Ella, Rowan, Jon, and Allie of Norman, OK; her brother, Darlus Edwards and his wife, Janice of Muldrow, OK, her younger brother, Danny and Donna Edwards, and nephew, Jeff Edwards and wife, Dawn of Roland, OK.
Cremation services are under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
