Sylvia Evans, 92, of Versailles, Kentucky, passed away on July 1, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Sylvia was born in Verda, Kentucky, to Rosa Belle Sturgill and Noah Vanover. For most of her life, she lovingly served as a homemaker, dedicating her time to raising her children and helping care for her many grandchildren. In her later years, she was especially cared for by her "power team" - Katrina Lay, Amber Sherwood, Nikki Callis, and her daughter, Gail Southworth.
She is survived by her children, Charlotte "Gail" Southworth, Marshall Evans, and Patricia Sutherland, along with numerous grandchildren, siblings, and extended family members who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Evans; her sons, Leroy, Jimmy, and Johnny Evans; her grandchildren, John Michael Evans, Summer Evans, and Shawna Evans; and many siblings.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, also at Blackburn & Ward, and will be led by Minister Andy Callis. Burial will follow at Rose Crest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Evans Sr., David Evans Jr., Stephen Lay, Noah Evans, Christian Lay, and Adam Evans. Honorary Pallbearers are Marshall Evans, John & Connie Abner, Kaiden Sherwood, Blake Sherwood, Tyler Lay, Jace Callis, and Ben Crain. Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages of condolence and share memories here on Sylvia's tribute wall.
