Sylvia Gladden Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Henderson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. - Springfield on Dec. 24, 2025.
Sylvia Gladden was called home to be with the Lord on December 05, 2025. Though her passing was sudden and tragic; her life was one deeply rooted in faith, love, and devotion to God. Born on May 26, 1967, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Sylvia Gladden was the cherished daughter of the late Edward Francis Gladden and Pinkie Gladden.
Raised in Springfield, MA, Sylvia Gladden was a devoted mother whose life was centered around love for her five children. She was the proud mother of Richard Tucker, the late Sharon Gladden, Bernice Ferron, Iesha Smith, and Jerry Smith. Sylvia Gladden attended Springfield public school and devoted many years of service as a postal worker.
Sylvia Gladden was a proud and faithful member of Holy Redeemer Cathedral under the leadership of Archbishop Naylor and Overseer Charlene Naylor. She remained a devoted member for over 28 years, where she deepened her love for God, strengthened her faith, and was appointed to the office of Deaconess and later licensed as a Missionary. She also found spiritual guidance and purpose through Holy Redeemer Cathedral. Her commitment to her church and her walk with the Lord was a defining part of her life. She remained steadfast in raising her children within the church, frequently reminding them, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Her testimony during service was fiery and full of praise. She would start by saying, "When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all that he has done for me, my soul cries out hallelujah. I think God for saving me.
While A devoted member of her church, Missionary Sylvia discovered her calling for feeding both bodies and souls of others through the Friday kitchen. She also served on Hospitality for many years. A Faithful missionary whose homemade macaroni and cheese could heal a weary soul, whose laughter could lift a troubled heart. In addition to her children, Sylvia Gladden was a proud and loving grandmother whose 9 Grandchildren were her greatest joy. She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved brothers Robert Gladden, Felix Carter, and her loving sisters Margaret Vanderburgh, Pinkie Gladden, and Mary Gladden. Along with a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Though she has departed this earthly life, her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
