Sylvia Crenwelge Izard

1939 - 2026

April 10, 1939 - January 20, 2026 Sylvia Ann Crenwelge Izard passed peacefully on January 20, 2026, in the home where she was born in Cherry Spring, surrounded by family. She was born on April 10, 1939, in Fredericksburg to Sylvester Crenwelge and Lillie Mae Mund Crenwelge.

Sylvia's early years were spent in the close-knit community of Cherry Spring, where she attended the historic one-room Cherry Spring School. She continued her education at Fredericksburg High School, where she was especially active in 4-H. After graduation, she attended business school in Austin, where she met and later married Lynn Izard in 1959.

The couple made their home in Lake Jackson, where Sylvia worked at the local high school and dedicated many years to serving her church community through children's worship programs. In 1979, Sylvia returned to Fredericksburg and the family farm, continuing her public service in the Gillespie County Tax Office until her retirement.

In her later years, Sylvia found joy in serving her Lord by serving others in her church, the Cherry Spring community, Fredericksburg, and missions abroad. She was an avid woodcarver and gardener, an enthusiastic traveler with a love of exploring new places, and a gracious hostess who welcomed countless friends and family to gather on her back porch.

She is survived by her children: Ryan Izard and wife Yuxin of Fredericksburg; Bill Izard and wife Mary Kay of Houston; Quinn Izard and wife Pat of Paige, Texas; and Karlin DeVoll and husband Rod of Alpine, Texas; as well as twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Lillie Mae Crenwelge; her husband, Lynn Izard; and her son, Lynn Izard Jr.

A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church in Fredericksburg on Saturday, February 28, 2026, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. and services following at 11:30 a.m.
