Sylvia LaManna Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 10, 2025.
Sylvia Ann LaManna, born February 25, 1929, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at the age of 96, surrounded by her loving family. A longtime resident of Jersey City, NJ; Brick, NJ; Point Pleasant, NJ; West Palm Beach, FL; and Stuart, FL, Sylvia lived a vibrant and inspiring life.
She was born in Jersey City, NJ, and was the third of six children to Antonio and Loretta Esposito. Her siblings include sisters Cora, Genevieve, and Gloria, and brothers Anthony and Andrew.
At the age of 16, while working in a factory during World War II, Sylvia decided to pursue her passion for beauty and enrolled in hairdressing school, which she attended at night. During this time, she met the love of her life, Carl LaManna, who was a Navy sailor. They married on April 17, 1949 and had a loving marriage until Carl preceded her in death on April 1, 2010. Sylvia is survived by her beloved sisters Cora Coppoletta, age 99, and Gloria Strumolo, age 85. Her children are Carol and Robert Horbelt, Carl LaManna, and Rick and Nancy LaManna.
She was a devoted grandmother to Lesley and Ed Kenney, Lauren and Douglas Rohmeyer, Ricky and Misty LaManna, Megan and Natalie LaManna, Michael LaManna, Carly LaManna, and Ava LaManna. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Olivia, Julia, and Lilly Kenney; Zackary and Luke Rohmeyer; Amber, Ricky III, Nathan, and Anthony Joseph LaManna.
Sylvia's heart held a special place for her grandson, Andrew LaManna, her "precious, precious angel in heaven," who passed away on September 17, 2018.
Sylvia lived life to the fullest. She loved being a hairdresser, and doing hair, makeup, manicures, and pedicures. She was very active in her faith. She enjoyed attending mass and saying the rosary. She was an amazing cook, loved baking, sewing, dancing, music, water aerobics, and long phone calls to catch up with loved ones.
Above all, Sylvia adored her family. She was the original Mama Bear-fiercely loving, protective, and proud of her entire family. She will be greatly missed. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Sylvia, please visit our floral store.
