Sylvia Reichlin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waldman Funeral Care on Dec. 9, 2024.

Sylvia Reichlin (Fleischer), age 102, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Sylvia moved with her family to Houston as a child. She was happily married for 52 years to Matthew Reichlin, whom she met at a Hadassah dance in 1945, shortly after his return from World War II. She is survived by her son, Robert Reichlin (wife, Barbara Reichlin), and daughters, Karen Pruett (husband, Robert Pruett), and Barbara Muster (husband, Gordon Muster). She adored her grandchildren Aric Hoek (wife, Toni Hoek), Jonathan Mueller (husband, Mickey De Lucchi), Jennifer John (husband, Eric John), and Lindsey Reichlin-Cruse (husband, Matt Cruse), as well as her great-grandchildren Katie and Gavin Hoek, Wyatt and Dixon John, and her newest great-grandchild, Noah Reichlin-Cruse.

Sylvia was a person with many interests and passions: antique collecting (lithographs, porcelain, glassware, and furniture), baseball, history, needlepoint, mahjong, reading, and travel. With Matt, she had opportunities to live abroad, first in Paris for 2 years, and later in London for ten. She and Matthew volunteered at the VA hospital, and she worked at the Jewish Community Center for many years. A great listener and advice-giver, Sylvia's humor, insights, and family stories were treasured by many.

Perhaps the most striking quality noticed by all who met Sylvia was how effortlessly comfortable and safe it felt to be in her presence. Her calm manner, warm, ever-present smile, gentle laugh, and twinkling eyes had an endearing way of putting others at ease, making it a true pleasure to know her and spend time in her company. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who were lucky enough to have had her in their lives.

She is survived by her brother, Alan Fleischer of St. Louis.

A private service and interment will be held at Emanu El Memorial Park.
