Sylvia Shipman

Sylvia Shipman, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at the age of 71; born on June 13, 1954, to the late Marian Shipman in New York. Sylvia grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she made lasting memories and lifelong friendships.
A proud graduate of Central High School, Sylvia was known for her warmth, generosity, and her amazing cooking, which brought family and friends together around the table. She was also a devoted Los Angeles Lakers fan who never missed a game and loved cheering on her favorite team. Above all, Sylvia's family was the center of her world. She offered a helping hand whenever she could and a comforting word to anyone in need.
Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved children Demetrius and Travawnia, whom she held close in her heart every day. In addition she is also predeceased by her cherished siblings Robin Shipman, Bernadette Sanchez, David Shipman, Robert Shipman, Francine Shipman, and Calvin Shipman.
She is survived by her loving sons Howard (wife, Hope) and Yamarr (fiancée Maria),stepson Tavares and bonus sons LT and June who will carry forward her strength, compassion, and sense of humor. Sylvia is also survived by her devoted sister and best friend, Terry Smith, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond.
Sylvia's legacy continues through her grandchildren - Dionna, Amanda, Tyler, Nyasia, Kyla, Howard, Jamar, Shaquesha, and Malaysia - and her great-grandchildren Liyah, Keithanial, Jaylin, and Jonathan, all of whom brought her endless joy and pride.
Her strength, laughter, and love will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
