Sylvia J. (Suomala) Simula

ROYALSTON, MA — Sylvia J. (Suomala) Simula, 81, of Baldwinville Road, died early Tuesday morning, May 3, 2022 at home surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Athol on June 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late George and Minny (Fuller) Suomala and grew up in Athol, graduating from Athol High School in 1959.

On September 4, 1959, she married Clifford Simula and they have enjoyed over 62 years of marriage and raising their family.

Sylvia had worked at the First National Bank and Bruce's Pharmacy for many years.

Family was very important to Sylvia, as were her dogs, especially her cocker spaniel "Boo". She enjoyed traveling out West through Colorado and the Rockies, as well as knitting and crocheting. She also loved country music, bus trips, craft fairs, and time in her home decorating.

She had been a member of the Birch Hill Rangers Snow Mobile Club.

Survivors include her loving husband, Clifford Simula of Royalston; daughter, Kim Bolton and her partner, John Swan, of Orange; a son, Shawn Simula and his wife, Bonnie, of Phillipston; and a grandson, Daniel Bolton of Athol.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, George Suomala and Richard Suomala, as well as sisters, Shirley Castine and Margie Jackson.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Jonas- Alliene Cemetery, Winchendon Road, Royalston, with Rev. Dr. Candi Ashenden of the Athol Congregational Church officiating.
