Sylvia passed away on May 28, 2023 at 81 years of age. She was born on May 28, 1942 in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

Sylvia and Riley, her loving husband of 57 years, lived in many cities across the United States, but made their home in Natchitoches, Louisiana for 42 years.

Sylvia was a loving mother of four boys. She cared deeply for her family and was an exceptional mother by providing meals large enough to serve an army all while working endlessly to provide opportunities for her boys to develop into the men they are today. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. Sylvia’s joy increased when she was blessed with nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Sylvia worked as a surgical tech at Wheat Eye Clinic, but her favorite occupation was being a mother and grandmother. Her love for her family was only surpassed by her love for the Lord. She worshipped him through singing gospel music, attending Gaither Vocal Band concerts, and by spending time in fellowship with the ladies of Grace Sunday School class at Trinity Baptist Church. She even performed in a comedy show at her church.

In her free time Sylvia enjoyed playing bingo, watching Gunsmoke or Bonanza, and visiting her family. One would rarely find her not sharing a conversation with someone.

Left to cherish her memory include her only sister, Marilyn Clark; her 4 sons; Rodney Stanfield (Susie), Christopher Stanfield (Vanessa), Ben Stanfield (Shannon), and Alan Stanfield (Jennifer); her grandchildren; William, Grace, Aaron, Adam (Anna), Cara, Caleb (Kristina), Faith, Hana, and James Riley Stanfield; her great grandchildren; Easton, Eliana, and Charlie. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Josie.

She is welcomed home by her husband, Riley Stanfield, the grandmother who raised her, Bessie Thomas, and brother-in-law, Joe Clark.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Adam Stanfield, Caleb Stanfield, Austin Wigely, James Riley Stanfield, Mark Birdwell, and Patrick Clark.

Honorary pallbearers include Shane Russell, Richard Clark, Kenny “Fuzzy“ Durr, and Dean Dove.
