After entering hospice care at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, LA, Sylvia Martha Wendelin, age 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2024.
Sylvia was born Sylvia Martha Hübner in Halle (Saale), East Germany to Heinz and Gertraud Hübner and then grew up in Kaiserslautern, West Germany before marrying and emigrating to Buffalo, NY in 1968, where she had two beautiful daughters – Patricia and Melanie.
She later remarried and, in 1984, relocated with her family to Shreveport where her third daughter, Stephanie, was born.
After many years serving a community of beloved customers at Target in Shreveport, Sylvia retired in 2022.
She was a self-taught artist and avid home cook (her dishes were always, "the best I ever made") who was proud of her German heritage and also loved baths, music, and laughing.
Sylvia is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Perdue (husband Max), Melanie Wilde (husband Joe), and Stephanie Wallace (husband Paul); and five incredible grandchildren Joshua and Caleb Smith, Kade and Kinleigh Wilde, and Hugo Wallace. She is also survived by her sister, Christel Flörchinger; nephew Frank and niece Birgit; and former husband Philip Wendelin.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Klaus Hübner, and former husband Richard Lange.
In lieu of visitation, memorial services will be held at Aulds Funeral Home (7849 East Kings Highway, Shreveport, LA) on Saturday, April 13 from 11:00AM - 1:00PM.
The family would like to thank close friends and the doctors, nurses and staff at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center in Shreveport for their extraordinary care and support.
