Tamara Hopkins-Carter, 53, was born on June 17th, 1971 in Jasper, GA to the late Phillip Hopkins and Shirley Chaney Hopkins. On Thursday, October 24th, 2024 she departed her life at the home in Cartersville, GA. Tamara joined her loving grandmother, Jessie Grace Jordan; grandfather, Thomas Jordan; eldest brother, Steve Hopkins; cousin/brother, Jamale Jones; uncle, Jimmy Stanley; aunt, Judy Green; mother-in-law, Kathleen Gay; sister-in-law, Debra Ruth Gay and stepson, Demetric (DJ) Carter.
Tamara received her high school education at Cherokee High School in Canton, GA. She was very athletic in softball and basketball. She was a member of Hickory Log Baptist Church in Canton, GA. She sung in the choir and worked with the youth department in the church and in the community.
Her hobbies were dancing, singing, bargain shopping and pampering herself.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: a loving husband, Julian Dexter Carter of Cartersville, GA.; two loving sons, Elijah Neal and Rodney Wilson, Jr. of Clemson, SC; a loving mother, Shirley Chaney Hopkins of Clemson, SC.
She also leaves behind her only living sibling, Anthony E. Hopkins of Clemson, SC.; five nephews, Tyleek Hopkins (Porsche) of Clemson, SC, Devonte Hopkins of Pendleton, SC, Deandre Hopkins of Kansas City, MO, Dayuan Randall of Atlanta, GA and Treymayne Gay (Bianca) of Woodstock, GA; two great nephews, Hasa Hopkins and Chandler Hopkins of Texas.
Also two other nephews, Lefforrace Mosley of Greenville, SC and Brandon Parker of Greenville, SC; three great nieces, Saharra Hopkins of Clemson, SC, Aaleyah Hopkins of Pendleton, SC and Alia Hopkins of Texas; one special sister, Barbara Randall of Lexington, SC; and two loyal friends, Marsha Pitts of Woodstock, GA and Kathy Frye of Canton, GA.
Five aunts, Patricia Daniels (Cecile) of Canton, GA, Wanda Jones of Gwinnett County, GA and Tammy Jones a very special auntie of Canton, GA, Annie Neal of Florida, Darlene Chaney (Calvin) of Alabama, and one uncle, Dennis Jordan of GA.
One sister-in-law, Jennie Varner of Canton, GA; two brothers-in-law, Shane Pye and Kenneth Varner both of Canton, GA and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Hickory Log Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Roach officiating. Interment will follow in Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will have a wake at Sosebee Funeral Home on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Carter will lie-in-state at Hickory Log Baptist Church on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral service.
