Tamara Mack Obituary

Tamara Mack

February 16, 1948 - October 19, 2024

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - Tamara Taylor Abbott Mack, 76, entered into eternal rest October 19, 2024, after a 15-year battle with breast cancer.

Daughter of the late Harriet and Tom Abbott. Tamara was born February 16, 1948, and spent her growing-up years in Conway. She was a popular member of the Class of 1966 at Conway High School. Following graduation, she attended Winthrop College where she was awarded a degree in English and Art in 1970.

When her parents bought a vacation home in France, Tamara and her son Justin went for a visit, and she fell in love with the French people and their culture. She taught English in Strasbourg for 10 years. She moved back to Conway to help care for her ailing father. In 1986 she began a career at Socastee High School, where she taught French for 20-plus years before retiring in 2009.

In 1987, she married the love of her life John Mack and moved to Myrtle Beach.

Tamara became a member of Trinity Church, where she was active in the Daughter of the King (DOK) and a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ. Her story as a breast cancer survivor was openly shared with many to both support and encourage others in their fight against this disease.

She was also an advocate for all of God's animals, especially her beloved cat Chico, a constant companion for 8 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Justin Gore, and his wife Christy; granddaughter Emma and grandson, Griffin; stepdaughter Christian and her husband Ronny; step-granddaughter Rivers and step-grandson Becker; a brother Tommy and his wife Jeanie; niece Victoria (Frank); nephew, Hyde Abbott; and step-grandson Jake.

She was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Buffy Mack.

A memorial service will be held a 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Trinity Church, 3000 North Kings Hwy. in Myrtle Beach.

The family will receive friends prior to the service between 1:30 pm and 2:50 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: Breast Cancer Place/Grand Strand Humane Society/Trinity Church.

Tamara was a close and dear childhood friend. Breaks my heart to read that she has passed this earthly world but I pray we will meet again in the Heavens when my time comes. We were the same age and very close as children. She will be forever loved by those who had known her practically all our lives. May G-D Bless you in Heaven and May we meet again in the future years and continue our friendship in Heaven for sure. Hilda Solomon Wajnberg.
