Tammy Burgess Sponheim Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 19, 2025.
Tammy Burgess Sponheim was born on March 12, 1959, in Sidney, MT to Bruce and Viola Burgess. She grew up on the family farm close to Nohle, MT. She attended school in Fairview, then went to business college in Billings, MT. Tammy worked for a lawyer there for a while before moving back to Fairview. She worked at the USDA-ARS in Sidney for a couple of years.
On December 19, 1981, she was united in marriage to Dale Sponheim. To this union their first son Scott was born on December 6, 1987, followed by Cody on January 26, 1990.
Tammy went to work at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview as a secretary where she worked for 14 years. She then became a stay-at-home wife and mother. They built their home in 1984 on the Sponheim home place where she lived until her passing on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Billings Clinic with family at her side.
Tammy loved being outside working on her flowers, or garden, or mowing - no matter how hot it was. She enjoyed cooking and baking goodies for her grandchildren. She also liked watching the different birds at the bird feeders, especially hummingbirds and orioles, and tracked their visits. She was a talented artist and person, in so many ways. She will be greatly missed.
Tammy is survived by her husband of 44 years Dale Sponheim; two sons Scott (Katelyn) and Cody of Cartwright, ND; four grandchildren Scott, Tillie, Anniston, Delaney, and Oren; sister Sherry (Jim) Weimer of Rapid City, SD; niece Heather (Travis) Hinners and their children Carter and Gavin; nephew Jason (Becky) Weimer and their children Noah and Levi; several cousins; her brother-in-law Lyle Sponheim of Dore, MT and his family; and her sister-in-law Arlene Willis of WA and her family.
Tammy was preceded in death by her parents Bruce and Viola, her grandparents Ella and Einar Anderson and Selma and Bruce Burgess, great-nephew Samuel Weimer; mother-in-law Gunny Sponheim, father-in-law Severt Sponheim, two aunts, and two uncles.
