Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Brighton on Sep. 17, 2024.
Tania Marie McCarthy, of Brighton, lost her battle to cancer and passed away peacefully on September 16th, 2024, while surrounded by her beloved family. She was 49 years old.
Raised in Jacksonville, FL, Tania spent most of her life there before moving to
Brighton, MI, six years ago. She was married to her beloved husband, Michael, for 11 wonderful years. Together, they created a nurturing and loving home, where their two daughters were the center of their world.
Tania cherished every moment spent with her family, especially during their vacations to the ocean, where the beach became her happy place. Despite being a critic of winter weather, she could be found playing in the snow with the girls or helping choose the Christmas tree.
It was at Holy Family Catholic Church parish in Jacksonville that Tania first noticed Michael, a coworker who was usually at the Saturday evening mass. Faith was strong and central in the family life they created. Tania assisted with faith formation at St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, including helping to prepare children for their First Communion. Each day was grounded in prayer, often sitting outside in quiet of the mornings with her book.
Professionally, Tania was a valued member of the Haskell team for 18 years, where she made lasting friendships and contributed significantly to her workplace as Human Resources Services Director, including administering the benefits/wellness programs.
When Tania was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer 4 ½ years ago, one medical team recommended hospice care. She found and worked with another team who agreed with her desire to fight the cancer and also live as fully as possible. She did both, accepting every recommended treatment and trial, dealing with all the side effects while working full time, parenting, hosting and joining family celebrations and even volunteering at the parish. Whenever possible, she returned to running, her favorite sport. Even in the midst of her suffering, if you met Tania, she asked how you were. If you knew Tania well, her dry humor and witty observations brightened your day.
Through it all, it was her love for her daughters that fueled her fight and focused her energy to create lasting family memories that will be treasured forever.
Tania is survived by her husband of 11 years, Michael McCarthy; children, Olivia Grace and Ella Mary McCarthy; parents, John
DeBartolo and Donna Olivera; sister, Tina (Bob) Clark; also many extended family and dear friends.
Tania is preceded in death by her father and mother-in-laws, Wilbert and Mary McCarthy.
