Tanner Neas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jeffers Funeral Chapel - Afton on Mar. 7, 2026.
Tanner Michael Neas, age 28, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Though his time on earth was far too short, the depth of his impact was immeasurable. Tanner's life was a living testament to unconditional love, courage, and the quiet strength found in a pure, innocent and beautiful soul.

Born on August 7, 1997, Tanner was uniquely and wonderfully made. His journey was marked by unimaginable challenges, yet he faced each day with a resilience that inspired everyone blessed to know him. Through his life, Tanner taught lessons that could never be learned from books-how to love without limits, how to find joy in the simplest moments, and how true strength often speaks without words.

Tanner's love radiated through his infectious Elvis side smile, his biggest and unforgettable hugs, and his own special way of communicating that reached straight to the heart. One of his

greatest joys was his yellow school bus. In his presence, hearts softened, and priorities became clear.

To his family, Tanner was a precious soul whose life changed theirs forever. He was their teacher, their light, and their greatest blessing. Tanner reminded all who knew him that worth is not measured by ability, but by love-and Tanner loved bigger than anybody.

Tanner's legacy will live on in every life he touched: family members, friends, caregivers, and all who had the privilege of sharing in his world. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will remain a constant reminder of faith, joy, and remarkable love.

He is survived by two sets of loving parents Debbie and Gene Norton, and Mike and Andrea Neas who loved him more than life. Grandparents, Jean and Randall Shelton, Judy Dewitt Neas,

and Raymond Roberts. Four bonus sisters, Abby Herndon, Megan Baker, Cassie Anderson, and Rachel Morelock. A special aunt, Connie Tarlton (Ronnie), who was also a phenomenal nurse and caregiver. Dear aunts, Lori (Barrett) Bragdon, and Sabrina (Harold) Ward. Uncles; Robbie

(DeAnna) Shelton, and David (Michelle) Roberts. Three special cousins (his bubba's) Jarrod, Jameson, and Jeremy Painter, and BJ Gray and Seth Bragdon, along with a host of other special cousins, friends, teachers, therapists and caregivers.

Tanner was preceded in death by his grandfather, Buford Neas, two grandmothers, Margaret Crowe and Iva Roberts, and great grandparents Ruth and Roscoe DeWitt, LV and Cleo Neas, Marie and Chad Shelton, and Bud and Mary Chandley.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3-7 pm at New Haven Church. The funeral will follow at 7 pm with Pastor Jackie Miller and Rev. Dolphus Cutshall officiating. The interment will be Wednesday at 11 am in Horse Creek Church of God Cemetery. Family and friends are requested to meet at New Haven Church at 10 am to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jarrod Painter, Jameson Painter, Jeremy Painter, BJ Gray, Seth Bragdon, Barrett Bragdon, Robbie Shelton, Garrett Anderson, and Brett Norton.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Renner, Chris Renner, Mark DeWitt, Jeff McCamey, Charles Adams, David Roberts, Harold Ward, Heath Pruitt, Ronnie Tarlton, Steve Painter, and Terry Anderson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Tyler Bailey, the ICU nurses at Johnson City Medical Center and a very special nurse, Luke Perryman, who thoughtfully and lovingly took care of him the day he departed this life.
