His Life Story
Tayammum Falah was born in St. Louis, Missouri. After completing high school, Tayammum joined the Army.
He was a proud father of eight adult children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A beloved uncle, cousin, and friend, Tayammum’s life was rich with love and connection.
A musician at heart, he loved jazz music and enjoyed playing the drums. He also loved to cook and bake, especially his famous bean pies and assorted cakes, which brought joy to many. Tayammum was very proud of his bean pies, and his family and friends always looked forward to them. His passion for baking led him to work at Shabazz Bakery in St. Louis, MO.
Tayammum loved his life, and most of all, he loved his family. He found great joy in helping others and being of service.
Obituary
Tayammum F., age 80, departed this life on August 13, 2025.
He was preceded in death by Betty J. Finley and Deverlyn J. Finley; his beloved father, John Smith; and his mother, Arneal Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Deverlyn F., Vivian F., Kerriem F., Aziza F., Ishrafil F., Hanify F., Farrakhan F., and Ayat F. He also leaves behind grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Tayammum is also survived by his loving brothers and sisters: Vivian Smith, Herbert Smith, Renee Smith-Pearson, Vanessa Smith, Michelle Smith-Poynter, and Roszell Smith.
He will be deeply missed.
Your love was steady, and your heart was wide,
A father to eight, you stood with pride.
Though time may fade and days may part,
Your name will always live in our hearts.
