Ted Alan Greinert was born March 15, 1947, in
Algona, Iowa, to Elmer and Florence (Dodds) Greinert. He grew up on the family farm in rural Whittemore. Ted was baptized on March 30, 1947, and confirmed in his Christian faith in 1961, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Fenton. He attended Fenton Grade School and graduated from Sentral High School in 1966. After graduation, he began farming on the family farm and continued farming his entire life.
On April 3, 1971, Ted was united in marriage to Jeanette Ruhnke at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lotts Creek. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Dana Rockwell of Mason City and Paula Peters of Whittemore, they were married 54 years. In 2007, Ted and Jeanette moved into Whittemore while Paula and three granddaughters currently live and continue operating the family farm. Ted was a lifetime member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
As a young boy, Ted's childhood revolved around being a cowboy, especially anything involving Roy Rogers. As he grew older, he enjoyed Elvis and his music as well as raising cows and pigs in 4-H. From time to time, he enjoyed traveling to Devil's Tower, raising mares, colts and training adopted mustang horses.
He was an active member of the Palo Alto County Cattlemen's Association, Palo Alto Pheasants Forever, and Pork Producers. Ted was a hardworking, dedicated farmer, milking dairy cows for 30 years, raising cattle, producing row crops and hogs being dedicated to Murphy Family Farms/Smithfield beginning in 1997. He always enjoyed bailing hay in the hot summer.
In 2019, Ted turned over the daily operation of the farm to his daughter, Paula and three granddaughters, though he remained involved for the rest of his life. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren on the farm, at the Kossuth County Fair with the bucket calves, as well as the Clay County Fair, where he loved watching the Chuck Wagon races up until their last race in 2019.
Ted was a great farmer, husband, father and grandfather. He was known for his kindness, humor, patience and unwavering love for his family. He faithfully cared for his wife for many years until his own health began to decline following a Parkinson's disease diagnosis. Ted passed away on August 20, 2025, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, at the age of 78.
He is survived by his daughters, Dana (Jason) Rockwell of Mason City; Paula Peters of Whittemore; five grandchildren, Garett and Carter Rockwell, Aurora, Ashton and Addison Peters.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette on March 7, 2025; father, Elmer on January 14, 1987; mother, Florence on September 15, 2004; his sister, Janice in 1949; his brother, Baby Greinert in 1951; and his cousin and best friend, Penny Dodds on July 4, 1964.
