Ted Wayne Hagan passed away on November 19, 2022, at his home with his loving wife Debbie by his side. For two years he fought a painful and courageous battle with Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer, a very rare and aggressive cancer. Ted was a native Floridian, born June 16, 1958, in Deland, Florida.
Ted attended Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, graduating in 1976. He attended Florida State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music with major in Music Composition and Theory. He went on to earn a Master of Music with major in Music Composition as well as a Master of Business Administration in Finance. He also did course work toward a doctorate in Music Composition and Theory.
Ted was a master musician. His primary instrument was the guitar. While in high school he played backup bass in several local bands, including Molly Hatchet. He played classical guitar, performing concerts throughout high school and college.
In 1985 Ted began a 32-year career at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Inc (now Florida Blue). He was hired in the Government Programs (Medicare) area as a Financial Analyst. He moved into the Information Technology division, where he had a successful career in leading Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida operational infrastructure for technology. When Ted retired in 2017, he was leading the Incepture Print and Mail subsidiary of GuideWell responsible for print and mail solutions for the Florida Blue organization, as well as other companies across the USA. Ted was a teacher and mentor to many throughout his career. He developed numerous strong friendships that remain in place today.
Although Ted was an introvert, he had a strong personality and loved to have a good time. He lived life to the fullest, like the song says, "live like you are dying". Ted was an excellent athlete, from
quarterback in high school, basketball at FSU, and being a nationally ranked racquetball player to
participating in company athletics, notably softball and volleyball. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially football. He loved the FSU Seminoles and the Jaguars, for which he and his wife were Inaugural Season Ticket holders. His sport passion was golfing with his buddies.
After retiring, Ted and Debbie enjoyed Las Vegas trips with their "posse". Their favorite vacations were spent at various Florida east coast beaches. Ted was passionate when he played golf with his friends, which he did as much as possible until his illness no longer allowed it. His absolute favorite thing to do in his retirement was sit on his back porch and watch the golfers (when he wasn't out there golfing himself) while listening to sports talk radio.
Ted was preceded in death by his father, Wayne V Hagan, MD. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Deborah (Debbie) Howell Hagan; mother, Norma Gayle Hagan; two brothers, Allen (Jo Ann) and Ken (Cathy); two nieces, Jessica and Allison.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 7th, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, 4001 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32207. Following a brief private Inurnment, a reception will be held in the church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross for Florida Hurricane Relief, NE Florida Community Hospice and Palliative Care, or Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church Handbell Ministry.

Beautiful memorial. Ted brought many of us together that we had not seen or talked to in quite some time. Friendships that last a lifetime. Thank you for reminding us of that! You will be missed but never forgotten.

My heart and prayers go out to the family. I worked with Ted for many years and he was always so kind and good to me. He was a great guy!

Continued thoughts and prayers for the family.
I remember seeing Ted pull out of the church parking lot, in his red convertible.
